Although the Star House sandwich insulation tends to be a novel construction method in Japan, the same method has been known as ICF construction in North America. ICF houses started to take root nationwide in the United States in the 1990s. The share of ICF houses, which was less than 0.1% according to construction start statistics in 1995, increased to 4.7% in 2004. Energy efficiency, storm resistance, and sound insulation of ICF have been well received in the United States, and the growth is rapidly expanding in the housing market where wooden houses are the mainstream type of construction.
